Seven Pillars of the Lighthouse program

The Lighthouse Student Mentoring Program is built on seven pillars:

CHRISTIAN STUDENT LEADERS: The purpose of the Lighthouse is to provide coaching and mentoring to students who have already made a commitment to Christ and have demonstrated a potential for leadership in the community or the church. The role of the program is to increase the depth and breadth of their relationship with Him.

RESIDENTIAL: The program is residential in nature, and participants will be required to ‘live in’ at the Lighthouse for the term of their commitment. Although the program will involve other students and non-residents in various activities, the central purpose is to develop the skills and abilities of the resident participants.

SHORT-TERM: The program will consist of one or more short-term commitments of one school year, or one summer season or both. We expect participants to make their commitment in writing and to fulfill their commitment both financially and in terms of time.

FINANCIALLY VIABLE: Although this program will be partially funded by Green Ridge as a mission, it is expected that all participants will contribute a reasonable amount towards the cost of the program and will contribute towards the operating costs of the Lighthouse. Participants will be responsible for their portion of costs for the duration of their commitment.

ACCOUNTABLE TO GREEN RIDGE: The Lighthouse, its Mentor and Participants will be accountable to Green Ridge Baptist Church for the respect of program policies, house rules, and for being an example of faithful living.

CONNECTED TO THE COMMUNITY: We expect participants to be outwardly active in the community and Green Ridge Baptist Church. While recognizing that students have a primary responsibility to successfully complete their studies, the Lighthouse is not a place of isolation, and participants are expected to be active in sharing their faith and fulfilling God’s call upon their lives – indeed this is the very purpose of the program.

CHRISTIAN MENTOR: In order to be successful, this program requires the leadership of a skilled and faithful Christian who will serve as the Mentor and who will provide direction to the program. Green Ridge Baptist Church is committed to engaging and actively supporting such an individual to ensure the success of the program.
